Incorporating the Breast and Chest: 16 CE Credits for LMTs

Class Description:
In this class, students will learn massage of the ribcage, chest, and breasts, intended to support healthy, full breathing and overall well-being. This massage commonly benefits clients experiencing stress, musculoskeletal neck, chest and shoulder related weakness or injuries, and also clients with non-cancerous breast related conditions such as menstrual related tenderness, fibrocystic breast tissue and other non-cancerous conditions. This massage also commonly benefits clients preparing for and/or recovering from surgeries, including those for breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast removal/mastectomy and/or open-heart surgery. Emphasis is placed on making our touch safe, pleasant, neutral/non-sexual, and effective for all clients. In many of the techniques, pressure is directed to the muscles and ribs located deep to the mammary glands. Students will learn massage techniques which are done for all genders with the chest draped and other techniques which are done bare chested/breasted. This 2-day class meets Washington State training requirements for specialized training in breast massage (WAC 246-830-555). It also meets NCBTMB CE requirements.

Instructor information:
My name is Lynna Dunn Fuller, and I am a licensed massage therapist and owner of Jubilee Family Massage in Bellingham, WA. I am a 2008 Brenneke School of Massage graduate, specializing in massage that decreases pain and increases function (in the emotional as well as the physical realms). My massage style is based in deep tissue Swedish strokes, but also incorporates lomi lomi strokes, myofascial and trigger point work, hot stones, aromatherapy, and lots of cupping. Incorporating the Breast and Chest is a class based on the original work of my teacher and mentor, Barbara Helynn Heard, who handed it down when she retired two years ago. As Barbara often stated, this work “should more accurately be referred to as “full chest massage”; while it includes the breast tissue, the primary target is the chest wall deep to the breast tissue.” Including full chest and breast massage within full body massage sessions supports healthy breathing, stress relief, shoulder and neck treatment, and general well-being. I feel honored to teach others to work in this often ignored area of the body.
